Recycling & Trash
The City of Harrisonville has a refuse contract with WCA, providing residents with residential trash collection along with the packet of other utility services.  For detailed information, pick up a copy of our helpful brochure, Information About Refuse Service and Recycling at City Hall.

Collection Days
Collection days are Monday through Thursday, regardless of holidays. You will be notified of your collection day when setting up your new utility service.   A 90-gallon cart will be provided.  Additional trash should be bagged and placed in a 45-gallon or smaller trash container and placed next to your cart.

Curbside Recycling
Curbside recycling is also offered in Harrisonville.  Recycling is not difficult and is an important part of waste reduction efforts.  Just be sure to follow the guidelines and set your recyclables out with your other trash by 6:30 a.m.   Place your recyclables in a plastic recycling bin, available at City Hall or by calling WCA, 380-5595.  Do not place recyclables in plastic sacks.
Examples of acceptable recyclables include paper, newspapers, aluminum and tin cans, food grade plastics. All items must be rinsed and cleaned.  Remove caps, lids, plastic bands before discarding.

Please take a few moments and prepare your recyclables according to the guidelines.  If the contents do not meet the requirements, they will not be collected.
Food waste, plastic lids, bands, bags, toys, dishes, Styrofoam, glass, or aerosol cans cannot be accepted as recyclables but can be discarded with regular trash.

Yard Waste
Yard waste should be placed on the opposite side of the driveway from your regular trash container in approved biodegradable paper yard waste recycling bags.  Please do not use plastic bags -- they will not be accepted. There is a seven (7) bag limit for yard waste per week.  However, this limit does not apply to leaves in the fall.

Grass, branch clippings, weeds and leaves are all considered yard waste.  Dirt and rock will not be accepted.  Brush or tree trimmings must be securely bundled.  Each bundle cannot exceed 4' in length, 2 ' in thickness or weigh more than 60 lbs.

Yard waste will be picked up at curbside on the same day as your other trash, although not necessarily by the same truck.

The monthly charge for trash collection is included with residents’ utility bills.
