Police Report / Traffic Accident / Report Requests
The Harrisonville Police Department Records Unit has developed policies and procedures regarding the release of reports that are in compliance with both legislative and case law, balancing public disclosure with privacy rights.
Police reports and traffic accident reports are generally available within 7 to 10 business days. Requests for reports must be made in writing or in person and must be accompanied by a fee of $5. (For reports exceeding 10 pages, and an additional fee of $0.10 per additional page may apply).
A Request For Records Form (PDF) may be used to submit a written request. Written requests should be mailed to:
Harrisonville Police Department
205 N. Lexington.
Harrisonville, MO 64701
Please include a self-addressed, stamped envelope or, if you prefer to pick up the report at the Police Department, a telephone number at which you may be reached once the request has been processed. Requests may also be faxed to 816-380-8935.
Please provide as much identifying information as possible, including report number, date of report, location of the incident, victim name(s), etc.
Only the initial incident report will be released in response to requests on active cases. Certain identification information will be removed, and investigative reports will not be released until such time as the case becomes an open record under Missouri Sunshine Law.
Requests from criminal defendants and/or their attorneys should be directed to the appropriate prosecuting attorney through the discovery process.
The Records Unit is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and is closed on all major holidays. Call the Records Unit at 816-380-8929 to verify that your report is available. Information contained on reports cannot be disseminated over the phone.
A request for records will be acted upon no later than the third business day following receipt of the request. Document production may exceed the three business days for reasonable cause, in which event the Custodian of Records will provide an explanation of the delay and the approximate date the records can be available for release.
